Application
& Admission
Information

General Admission Policy
The
primary criterion for admission is the applicant's apparent ability to
progress satisfactorily in a graduate degree program. Items
considered by the faculty in making recommendations for admission
include: the applicant's undergraduate degree program, undergraduate
grade-point average, scores on the Graduate Record Examination,
transportation experience, letters of recommendation, and statement of
goals and objectives. For international students, scores on the
Test of English as a Foreign Language are also considered. Note
that the letters of recommendation and statement of goals and objectives
are just as important as the quantitative measures in the evaluation.

Decisions on
Acceptance and Financial Aid
Decisions
on admittance to the program are made by April 15 (Fall entry) and
October 15 (Spring entry). Offers
for research assistant (RA) funding are based on the quality of the
applicant's credentials and the possession of any skills that coincide
with current project needs. Funding is available for only a
limited number of students, and thus are awarded to only the most
outstanding applicants. For students that plan on requesting
financial support, you are strongly encouraged to submit your
application by January 31. For students that want to be
considered for participating in the graduate student recruiting
weekend at UF (typically mid-February), you must apply by December
31 (Note this is open to students residing in the continental US).
